Now ..comes the Baby Shower!

Well.....the Baby Shower is upon us!   I wanted to share two websites that have helped me tremendously!  Its from these sites that I got my inspiration to let my creative juices give birth ...(yes....I had to say it! lol) to a Diaper Cake and help design  her Baby invites!   Maybe its said that Moms are not to the give baby showers....but in this case I break etiquette rules. :)   Im giving my beautiful daughter a shower at a Italian restaurant and I wanted to make her a Diaper Cake  as part of the decorations.   This is the youtube video that helped me.How to make a toy themed diaper cake
After watching it.....the video showed me how to roll up the diapers and make a three layer cake.

You can see I used a baby bottle for the middle.  This cake will all be used for the baby  well after the shower.  That is what is so great about a diaper cake.  I then added on the ribbon and placed  rows and rows of folded ribbon in a bow to the back.  This picture does not show enough  ...but it came out so neat in covering up where I taped up the ribbon.
Here is the finished cake with baby toys and a couple of stuffed animals on it.  As you can guess...my daughter loved it!!
I also wanted to give you a link to a site where I ordered the awesome Baby Shower invites!  http://www.etsy.com/shop/hhdixon?ref=ss_profile
Hannah was the BEST!   She is so kind and gives such great customer service.   Here is a picture of our finished invites!
PS.....I know I didnt mention anything about knitting....well...Im still finishing up the diagonal baby blanket and will show you a picture as soon as its finished!   Oh!!! Oh!!!  I did make a cute dishcloth for a football pool Im in! LOL  I'll post a picture of that too....next time.

Baby Coming.....and Im Knitting like Crazy!

My Daughter Emily 6 mo

My second daughter is having her first Baby and it will be my 3rd grandson.  Yes...we know he will be a little boy...and his name will be Landon.  She is 6 mo right now as I write this and this is the 4th baby blanket that I have made for her.  She says that I need to make as many blankets that I did for my other grandsons...so what can I say...I need to keep stitching!! lol
The blanket Im showing you here is made from fingering weight yarn, Sensations, Breeze and it was purchased from Joann's.  The yarn has a "Krinkle" in the stran and it is very fine.  Its taking me a very long time to make this due to the fingering weight ...but I do see light!!!   In this diagonal pattern you increase from a cast on of 4 stitiches and then keep increasing to the middle of where you want the blanket size.  Then you start to decrease on each row to finish it.   Im now seeing the end coming!!!  It really got to be one of my dreaded knits.....but now that I can see the finish coming....Im going full speed!  :)
Here is a close up ....it all just knit stitches which makes for good mobile knitting!

Oh My!   I just lost touch with posting ...and I've promised myself Im going to do better about this.  Now...it doesnt mean I havent been knitting! Oh no....I have started and finished so many projects that it will take me some time to post them.  But...I plan to. :)

Now....I just wanted to tell you about what I just started yesterday.  Im in a KAL on ralvery which is here if you want the Ralvery group link..... Knitters Brewing Co-Sock-aholics group and  Wendy's store is Knitters Brewing Co.  where you can find the prettiest yarns.   I cant remember how I found the link, but Im so glad I did!   I bought the kit for $24 which I was so excited to receive.  In my kit I had 1skein of Luxy Sock Yarn in the colorway "Foo Foo Drink" and it's just so beautiful!  Its sock-aholic solid. I also received a free sock pattern, a beautiful knit marker and my a diploma that I will feel so proud of once I finish my socks!

Ok....so this is the first time I am doing  Toe-Up socks....and Im really enjoying it so far.  Here is a picture of how far I am.  I just casted on and working on increasing for the toe section.

I will plan to add some more pictures as I work through the pattern.  So far Im enjoying this KAL and the girls on the board as so so friendly and helpful.

Welcome to my site.....

I'm Dotty and I started this blog to share some of my thoughts and knitting projects.  I have enjoyed so much visiting on Ralvery that I thought it was only polite to share who I am and what projects I'm working on.  I just discovered knitting podcasts, which have led me to some very helpful ideas and tips that have encouraged me more than ever to knit... knit.... knit!

I'm a rather new knitter, but I already have about 4 projects on my needles and have finished quite a few small items which I plan to post in my project section.  Its rather nice to post up my finished projects, it lets me see exactly what I have accomplished.  And that is a very nice feeling.   I already can see and feel my knitting improving as I keep with it.

Project One...  Mitered Squares Afghan

I belong to a weekly Knitting Group in my local yarn store which is called
Phebies Needle Art and about 10 of us on Monday nite and 10 of us on Tuesday have been making this blanket and buying and sharing all the colors.
The bunch of colors to the right are a sample of what we are given to work on every 2 weeks.
Here is a close up of the pattern.  I'm felting the ends ...so sometimes...a little bit of the next color mingles in on the next.  Felting the ends is okay, but you just need to really make the connections close and very secure.  The only tip on this pattern is to remember to  pick up your middle purl stitch right at the point of the last middle purl stitch on the last row.  This way all your purl rows will look even and straight.
All in all I'm pretty pleased with how it is coming out.  I'm half way there!
